Windsor Windows & Doors' new sash replacement kit saves time and
money
NEWS RELEASE
West
Des Moines, IA, -If it's time to replace those old drafty,
rotted, paint peeling window sashes, look no further than
Windsor Windows & Doors' new Win-Pac. This new, unique sash
replacement kit from one of the nation's top window
manufacturers is less expensive than vinyl replacement windows,
and takes less time and cost to install. Step-by-step
installation instructions are included inside each Win-Pac,
making it the perfect "do-it-yourself" project for homeowners
and remodelers.
"Home
renovation is a $100 billion and growing industry. Rotting
windows alone can cost up to $1500 each to replace. At Windsor,
we want to help homeowners remodel in a way that's easy,
attractive, and won't break the bank," says Jeff Jones, Windsor
Windows & Doors Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
Several
special features make the Win-Pac sash replacement kit stand
apart from its competitors. Instead of using clips to hold the
jambliners in place, the Win-Pac has a unique, simple system of
screws. This allows for easy adjustment of the jambliners,
which ensures smooth operation. Win-Pac's sash stop system also
plays a role in its smooth movement. The sash stops are
positioned into the head jamb with special blades that stabilize
the jambliner and prevent the inside sash from hitting the head
jam.
No
exterior trim or siding work is required with installation, and
existing interior trim and plaster stays in place, too. That's
an important detail for those who want sash replacements, but
don't want to alter the appearance of their homes. The Win-Pac
is available in a variety of finishes, including Windsor's
exclusive Legend Series Cellular PVC, which offers the look and
feel of finely crafted wood, without the potential for rotting
or warping. The interior of Legend Series kits is factory
pre-painted in white, but can easily repainted to match any home
decor. The same is true for wood and clad kits. They can be
stained or painted to match all interiors.
"The
Win-Pac is truly the best sash replacement kit available. It's
definitely an option homeowners need to consider when deciding
whether to replace windows. The Win-Pac if affordable, easy to
install, and will convince everyone into thinking the windows
are brand new," says Jones.
A
high-tech QUAD weather-strip system helps keep out air and
water, and both sashes tilt for easy cleaning. The Win-Pac's
built-in finger pulls at the top and bottom eliminate the need
for add-on hardware and provide a cleaner look. The Win-Pac can
be found at authorized Windsor Windows & Doors distributors and
dealers.

Installation Guide
Remove Old Sash
1. Remove the side
and head parting stops.
2. From the inside
of the home, carefully remove the inside of the old window,
using a broad chisel or putty knife. DO NOT THROW AWAY THESE PIECES,
YOU'LL REINSTALL THEM LATER.
3. Cut and remove
the cords and pulleys on the lower sash, if applicable.
4. Remove the old
sash; these should be discarded after installation of the new
sash.
*Note: If your existing window has jambliners, once you have removed
the inside and head parting stops and sash, the jambliners can be
rotated from the opening as a unit. Be sure that all staples and
other similar fastening devices have first been removed from the
jambliner.
5. Then remove the
upper sash.
6. Repair jambs as
needed and fill old pulley holes with insulation.
7. The window is
now ready to have the new sash installed.
Prepare for new sash installation
1. Install the left
and right vinyl jambliners between the inside and outside stops; these
are components that are held in place and adjusted with screws provided.
*Jambliners should be touching the sill and the "flange" side touching
the outside/blind stop.
*Make
sure the sash stop (red dot) is at top.
*Press
jambliner against frame and drive screws until the head is flush with
the liner.
*Readjustment of screws may be necessary when replacing existing
interior stops while installing the new sash.
2. Install the vinyl
head parting stop (providing in the jambliner package) into the head
parting groove. Center this piece in the head of the window frame. Be
sure the flexible weather-strip fin faces towards the outside of the
house. Drive the stop into the groove with a block of wood and a
hammer.
3. Before installing
the sash, make sure the nylon friction shoes where the sash pivot pins
will be inserted line up. Notice the adjusting screw on each friction
shoe. You may have to adjust these if either sash creeps up of down
after installation.
Install New Sash
1.
Hold the sash so the outside surface of the sash is facing up and the
pivot brackets at the end of the sash are closest to the window.
2.
Install the top or outside sash first. Insert on pivot pin into the
outer friction shoe on one side and then slightly lover this side of the
sash to make it easier to insert the pivot pin on the other side.
3.
Tilt the sash up and push towards the outside to fully install the
sash. It may be necessary to compress the jambliners to fully install
the sash.
4.
Repeat steps 2 & 3 for the inside or lower sash. Slide top sash into
sash stop, pushing sash stop blade firmly into head jamb. Move both
sashes up and down to ensure proper installation and operation.
5.
Engage all locks.
6.
Adjusted fastening screws in jambliners as needed to achieve optimum
sash operation: Tighten screws to compress jambliners more and make sash
easier to operate. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN AS THIS COULD DAMAGE THE
JAMBLINERS AND/OR CAUSE SASH TO FALL OUT.
